In Danna’s hour of need, the rescue helicopter gave her the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
After months of experiencing terrible stress in her life, things finally came to a head in the early hours of the morning.
Danna woke up with a start. Her body was covered in sweat, and she immediately began vomiting. Something was obviously wrong… but what?
Not wanting to disturb her neighbours by calling for an ambulance - Danna climbed into her car and drove herself to hospital.
Looking back, she can’t believe she didn’t call 111 right away.
“I have no heart attacks in my family,” she says, “so I didn’t recognise any signs. Now I tell people to be aware of the effects of a heart attack.
“And for goodness’ sake, press your St John button and get the ambulance. Don’t drive to hospital as I did.”
Thankfully, Danna arrived without further incident, but her condition was getting worse. And as soon as she arrived…
“Reception took one look at me, and pushed me through the door. Next minute, they’d ordered the helicopter, and I was off.”
Here, our supporters kindness entered Danna’s life and gave her the best possible chance of survival. Thank you!
"This service probably saved my life. Thanks very much!"
Because of generous supporters, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was able to respond rapidly and take Danna to Waikato Hospital in the fraction of the time it would’ve taken by road.
As you know, every second counts in an emergency. And it’s support from people like you that saved not just seconds but hours of travel time - quite possibly saving Danna’s life.
After months of recovery, Danna is now taking each day as it comes, and she told us, “To the rescue helicopter crew, I’d like to say
thank you very much. They said I slept the whole flight, but I know you did a great job!”
And from all of us at the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter, we’d like to thank our supporters for helping us rescue Danna, and many more people like her in the community.
