Kind, caring people like you raise much needed funds at the John Turkington Forestry Red & Blue Charity Ball
Since 2018, good-hearted people like you have been raising money for your local emergency services at an annual, fun-filled event called the ‘John Turkington Forestry Red & Blue Charity Ball’.
This is a much-anticipated event on the social calendar, and most of the volunteers who run the event have either worked, or still do work in essential emergency services.
If you are one of the organisers, sponsors or if you’re one of the generous people who attended this year, your rescue helicopter crew want to say a huge, and personal, “Thank you”.
Because together this year, you helped raise an incredible $57,000 – a massive amount that will have a tremendous impact in your community. We couldn’t be more grateful to you.
Local Manawatu businesses really got behind the event, and donated an impressive range of items.
There was custom jewellery up for grabs from Cameron Jewellers and Max Wilson Diamond Jeweller, a Cinema Advertising Package from SeeMe Media, and for those who were more adventurous, a 30-minute flight around the Manawatu.
However, the big ticket item of the night was the commission on a house, generously donated by Deb Quin at Harcourts. To everyone who kindly donated these items and experiences, you really blew us away. Thank you!

Another highlight of the evening came when guest speaker and past patient Dan Jack took the stage. Dan shared his story, of when he was injured while out mountain biking, and how your Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter crew came to his aide. Dan’s accident and rescue was a powerful reminder of the work your rescue helicopter crew does in the community, and why it’s so important.
To everyone in the Manawatu and Whanganui community, you are very special to us, and we’re deeply grateful to have your support. Together, we really are saving lives.
