Kindness has a profound and lasting impact on people’s lives. It gives people a second chance - and in some cases, even a third and forth.
We recently caught up with Kellyanne, the mum of a little girl named Mabel.
If it wasn’t for the rescue helicopter, this gorgeous nearly 4-year-old might not be alive and well today, hitting every milestone and waving with a big smile every time she sees a helicopter fly overhead.
Her mum Kellyanne says,
“Like so many families helped by the rescue helicopter, it’s simply scary to think how different life could be if we hadn’t had your help.”
When Mabel was only 8-weeks-old, she had brain surgery to remove an arachnoid cyst.
Unfortunately, not long after she got back home, Mabel began to go downhill fast. Thankfully the rescue helicopter crew flew to her side when she was in need.
Kellyanne told us,
“There’s something profoundly terrifying and reassuring about your baby being on that big stretcher – knowing you’re getting the best care you can have, so quickly.”
Generous support probably saved little Mabel’s life that day. But a year later, Mabel was in critical danger once again. She was seizing badly and needed to get to specialist pediatric care at Starship urgently.
Thanks to incredible support, the rescue helicopter was able to get her there in record time, along with her favourite teddy bear and blanket. Once again, supporters of the rescue helicopter helped save her life.
…but just a week later, after heading home, Mabel’s condition worsened again.
“She was projectile vomiting, seizing, and had a really scary low heart rate. Thankfully the rescue helicopter crew were again able to get us to Starship super quick.”
It took three incredible rescues to get Mabel back on track, but this little girl is now growing in leaps and bounds. Kellyanne says,
"We will forever be grateful. Until you’re in the middle of it all, and it’s your most loved one needing urgent care, it’s impossible to truly appreciate the incredible work of the rescue helicopter and the crew on board. I have been nothing short of blown away by your generous spirit.”
We are delighted that Mabel is doing so well now. And like Kellyanne, we are forever grateful to our incredible supporters for making these rescues possible.
