The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter carried out 38 life-saving missions across the Central Plateau and Lakes region throughout May.
These missions included 19 inter-hospital transfers, two medical events, eight rural/farm incidents, one motor vehicle accident, and eight miscellaneous missions.
The rescue helicopter was most often seen in remote locations such as, the Kaimanawa Forest, Ruahine Ranges, or Pureora Forest to name a few.
The month began with the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Rotorua Hospital for a male who had sustained injuries following a fall. The patient was transported to Waikato Hospital to receive further treatment.
On May 3, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Tokoroa Hospital for a male who had sustained significant injuries following a fall. The patient was transported to Waikato Hospital to receive further treatment.
On May 10, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Kaimanawa Forest for a male who had sustained serious injuries following a fall. The patient was winched from the remote location and transported to Taupo Hospital for further treatment.
That afternoon, the crew flew to Wharepapa South for a male who had sustained injuries in a motor vehicle-related incident. The patient was treated on scene and flown to Waikato Hospital for further care.
On Sunday May 11, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Onetangi for a female who had sustained injuries following a fall while bike riding. She was stabilised on scene for approximately 20 minutes before being airlifted to Auckland City Hospital to receive further treatment.
On May 13, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Kaimanawa Forest for a male who had fallen and sustained injuries. The patient was airlifted to Taupo Hospital to receive further treatment.
On May 17, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Waimangu for a male who was experiencing a serious medical event while walking. Due to the remote location, the patient required extraction via winch. The Critical Care Flight Paramedic (CCFP) was winched onto the track to provide immediate treatment. A short time later, the man was winched from the track and flown to Rotorua hospital for ongoing care.
On May 23, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Taupo Hospital for a male who was suffering from a serious medical event. The patient was flown to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
On May 25, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the Ruahine Ranges for a female who had sustained injuries after a fall while walking. The patient was treated on scene by the onboard Critical Care Flight Paramedic before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital for further treatment.
On May 30, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter flew to Rotorua Hospital for a male who was experiencing a serious medical event. The patient was airlifted to Starship Hospital to receive further treatment.
That evening, the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Omanawa for a male who had sustained serious injuries following a farm-related incident. The patient was stabilised on scene for over an hour before being swiftly airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
The month concluded with the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter being dispatched to Pureora Forest for a male who had sustained injuries after a fall while bike riding. The patient was treated on scene before being airlifted to Taupo Hospital for further treatment.
That evening, the rescue helicopter crew were dispatched to Taupo Hospital for a male who sustained injuries following a motor vehicle accident. The patient was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
